Squarespace → Shopify
Squarespace is a strong site builder and a limited store — checkout, apps, inventory and wholesale features run out as sales grow. We migrate the catalogue, customers, order history and content to Shopify, rebuild the design on a fast theme, and redirect every old URL so rankings and bookmarks keep working.

Why merchants move
What moves
The honest version — including the things that cannot move on any platform, and what we do about them.
| What | How it moves | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Products and variants | Exported from Squarespace Commerce as CSV, variant attributes mapped to Shopify options with metafields for the rest, images re-hosted at full resolution.Products with more than three variant attributes are restructured with you first. | medium |
| Categories and tags | Store categories and tags rebuilt as Shopify collections and tags with matching handles where possible. | low |
| Customers | Customer profiles exported and imported with addresses and marketing consent; passwords cannot move, so accounts are activated by email. | medium |
| Orders | Order history exported and imported as archived orders with line items, totals, dates and status. | medium |
| Discounts and gift cards | Discount codes recreated in Shopify; outstanding gift card balances migrated. | low |
| Reviews | Product reviews exported and imported into a Shopify review app with schema. | low |
| Blog posts and pages | Content taken through Squarespace's WordPress-format export and recreated as Shopify articles and pages with images and metadata; internal links rewritten. | low |
| URLs and redirects | Every shop, product, blog and page URL inventoried and 301-redirected on Shopify; tested before and after the domain switch. | high |
| Subscriptions and member areas | Subscription products recreated in a Shopify subscription app with a re-consent flow; member content rebuilt with a customer-accounts app. Saved payment methods cannot move. | high |
| Forms, scheduling and integrations | Forms rebuilt in the theme or an app; scheduling, email and accounting integrations reconnected to Shopify. | medium |
How it works
Typical timeline: 2–6 weeks. Your current store keeps selling until the switch.
Catalogue, variants, content, integrations, URLs and traffic reviewed; plan and fixed quote delivered.
Theme, navigation, payments, shipping, taxes and apps configured while Squarespace keeps selling.
Products, customers, orders and content migrated repeatedly until counts and samples match.
Full URL map prepared in Shopify; metadata, schema and sitemap ready before launch.
Delta migration of the latest orders and customers, domain moved to Shopify, redirects verified live.
Two weeks of daily checks; 30 days of fixes; Squarespace plan cancelled once rankings settle.

Squarespace exports products, orders and customers as CSV and the blog and pages as a WordPress-format file. Those four exports cover most stores; the audit shows what they miss — variant attributes beyond Shopify’s three options, gallery pages, member content — and how each is handled.
Squarespace’s URL mappings only work while the site is on Squarespace. The full redirect map is built in Shopify’s URL redirects before cutover and tested against every shop, product, blog and page URL, so the domain switch does not cost a ranking.
Fluid layouts and template styling do not transfer. The store is rebuilt on a fast Shopify theme with your fonts, colours and imagery, section by section, and you review it on a preview URL before anything goes live.
FAQ
Still unsure? Ask us directly — one human reply, no sales sequence.
Yes — products, orders and customer profiles export to CSV from the Commerce panels, and blog posts and pages come through the site export. Anything that does not export cleanly is pulled from the live site and rebuilt, and the audit tells you exactly what falls in that bucket.
Yes. Squarespace's export carries blog posts and standard pages; we recreate them as Shopify articles and pages, re-host the images, rewrite internal links and redirect the old URLs.
It stays registered there — we only point its records at Shopify at cutover. Domains registered elsewhere are handled the same way, and email keeps working because only the website records change.
Squarespace layouts do not transfer, so the design is rebuilt on a fast Shopify theme with your fonts, colours and imagery. It is matched section by section and usually ends up faster and easier to edit.
