Migration
A migration is a data project and an SEO project wearing the costume of a redesign. We plan it as both — every entity mapped, every URL redirected, every test run verified against counts — so launch day is a switch flipped, not a weekend lost.

Why merchants move
What moves
The honest version — including the things that cannot move on any platform, and what we do about them.
| What | How it moves | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Products, variants and images | Exported, mapped to Shopify’s structure (options, metafields), imported via API and checked against counts. | low |
| Collections and categories | Rebuilt as automated or manual collections with the same URLs where possible. | low |
| Customers | Imported with addresses, tags and marketing consent. Passwords cannot move; customers set a new one on first login. We send an activation campaign after cutover. | medium |
| Order history | Imported as archived orders for customer history and reporting.Order numbers can be preserved with a prefix. | medium |
| Blog posts and pages | Migrated with images, metadata and internal links rewritten. | low |
| URLs and redirects | Full URL inventory from crawl and Search Console, mapped to new URLs, 301 redirects deployed and tested. This is where migrations lose traffic; it gets the most attention. | high |
| Reviews | Exported from your review platform and imported into its Shopify equivalent with schema intact. | low |
| Discounts and gift cards | Recreated in Shopify; unredeemed gift cards migrated with balances. | low |
| Subscriptions and saved payment methods | Payment tokens cannot be moved between platforms. Subscribers are migrated with a re-consent flow through a Shopify subscription app. | high |
| SEO metadata and structured data | Titles, descriptions and schema carried over and validated after launch. | low |
How it works
Typical timeline: 3–8 weeks depending on catalogue size and integrations. Your current store keeps selling until the switch.
Inventory of catalogue, customers, orders, content, URLs, apps and integrations. You get a migration plan with the risks, timeline and a fixed quote.
Theme, navigation, payments, shipping, taxes and apps set up on a password-protected Shopify store while your current site keeps selling.
Data migrated in test runs until counts, samples and spot checks match. Integrations connected and tested.
URL map deployed, metadata and schema carried over, sitemap prepared, Search Console ready.
Final delta migration of orders and customers, DNS switched, redirects verified live — no downtime for shoppers.
Two weeks of daily checks on indexing, redirects, orders and analytics, plus 30 days of fixes.
Pricing
Honest ranges from past migrations. You receive a written plan and a fixed quote before anything moves.
$1,500 – $3,000
Products, collections, customers and redirects into a store you have already set up.
$3,000 – $8,000
Everything above plus theme setup, order history, content, reviews, apps and a managed cutover.
$8,000 – $20,000+
Subscriptions, B2B, multi-store, ERP or custom integrations, very large catalogues.
The table above is the honest version: products, customers, orders, content, reviews and redirects move cleanly with the right process; passwords and saved payment methods do not move on any platform, and subscriptions need a re-consent flow. Knowing this up front is what makes the plan realistic.
Almost every migration horror story is one of two things — data that did not reconcile, or URLs that changed without redirects. Our process runs the data migration repeatedly until counts and samples match, and treats the redirect map as the most important deliverable in the project.
Each source platform has its own quirks — WooCommerce’s variation structure, Magento’s attribute sets, BigCommerce’s option rules. See the dedicated pages for WordPress, WooCommerce, Magento and BigCommerce migrations for the details that apply to you.
FAQ
Still unsure? Ask us directly — one human reply, no sales sequence.
No. The new store is built and loaded in parallel; cutover is a DNS change with a final delta migration, and shoppers see either the old store or the new one — never a gap.
Migrations lose rankings when URLs change without redirects or metadata is dropped. Our process inventories every URL, redirects each one, carries metadata and schema, and monitors Search Console daily after launch.
Customer records, addresses and order history move. Passwords cannot be migrated by any platform, so customers set a new one on first login — we run an activation email to make that painless.
We map each current plugin or extension to its Shopify equivalent (or a built-in feature), and rebuild integrations with your ERP, CRM, email and shipping tools as part of the plan.
