The Challenge

A rapidly growing retailer was struggling with a monolithic Shopify setup. Managing inventory and marketing across the US, UK, and EU was a nightmare of duplicate stores and unsynced content.

Furthermore, site speed in international regions was poor due to server distance, causing high bounce rates on mobile devices.

The Solution

We decoupled the frontend from the backend, moving to a Headless Commerce architecture.

  • Next.js Storefront: Built a unified frontend application that serves all regions from a single codebase, drastically reducing maintenance overhead.
  • Edge Middleware: Implemented Vercel Edge Middleware to detect user location and serve the correct currency, language, and inventory instantly.
  • CMS Integration: Connected a headless CMS (Sanity) to allow marketing teams to build region-specific landing pages without engineering support.

The Result

The new architecture delivered instant page transitions and a native api-like feel. Regional teams regained control over their merchandising, boosting international sales.
